Calderdale SmartMove > Press Releases

SmartMove can boast many successes over the years and within the following pages are a selection of writings, photographs and videos produced by our past clients (coming shortly) as well as local press cuttings (see next page) about the organisation.

Below is a link to an audio Podcast, with our Chief Executive Stuart Rumney outlining what it’s all about, with client interviews and stories about courses and experiences of clients past and present. (Opens In You Tube)

Sue’s Story

“I was living in Bradford with my cousin and his family in a two bedroom house when he decided to move away. I became homeless in 2008. From there I spent time at my friend’s house and my life was to become so much more difficult. I used to sleep on the sofa – I had no job and limited access to family and friends.

Then in 2010 I was referred to SmartMove and with their help I quickly gained accommodation with Pennine Housing. Once I had settled in I began to look for employment and over a year applied for many jobs but without success.

My support worker encouraged me to go on a basic course and I was referred to Calderdale College. I am now studying IT and Sage Accounting to gain the skills and knowledge to enable me to work and support myself. This has given me the confidence to undertake employment.

I am confidently looking forward to the future now – my support worker has encouraged me to never give up.”

Our Stories

Our clients have been busy putting together a collection of their stories for SmartMove.

It’s a really inspirational read, and makes you realise there are many circumstances that can lead to people becoming homeless, it really can happen to anyone.

The short book it available to purchase for a recommended minimum donation of £2, which helps to cover the printing cost.

Anything over and above that goes towards helping the homeless and vulnerably housed across Calderdale.

Thanks in advance for you support.
